The use of Pure Wick is considered one of the best methods to protect women from urine leakage and keep their bodies dry during use, as the urine flows into a dedicated collection container. This occurs when using the traditional Pure Wick, where urine flows through the lumbar part in contact with the woman’s body and collects at the bottom of the blue rubber tube in the empty space between the end of the plastic tube and the end of the blue rubber sheath. The urine is then suctioned upward through the plastic tube into the collection container.
Therefore, it is essential to leave sufficient space at the bottom of the blue rubber sheath in Pure Wick for urine to flow between it and the plastic tube. One of the main issues that occur with the traditional Pure Wick is the collapse of this empty space. This sometimes happens when the end of the plastic tube reaches or touches the end of the blue rubber sheath. In this case, urine will not be suctioned upward because the tube becomes blocked, leading to urine leakage around the woman’s body, rendering the Pure Wick ineffective.
Causes of the collapse of the empty space:
- Sometimes, during the shipment of Pure Wick in boxes and due to transportation shocks, some of the empty spaces collapse.
- When the woman or caregiver places the Pure Wick on her body and applies pressure, either on her body, the bed, or the seat, the empty space becomes blocked.
To address the aforementioned issues:
- The Pure Wick has been innovated and improved into the “Enhanced Pure Wick.”
- This ensures the continuous flow of urine into the collection container, meaning urine is suctioned consistently.
- The design features of the “Enhanced Pure Wick” include extending the length of the main plastic tube at the bottom by approximately 0.5 inches. This extended part will have small holes around it (preferred) or open spaces along its length around the tube.
- In this case, the “Enhanced Pure Wick” will function perfectly as intended.
- The concept of the “Enhanced Pure Wick” will be suitable for anyone using the device regularly at home, especially when they know it works continuously without any issues.
- Additionally, the “Enhanced Pure Wick” will be used in hospitals across the United States, where more than 3,000 hospitals currently use the traditional system. However, they will prefer the “Enhanced Pure Wick” to avoid the aforementioned obstacles, reduce the number of lost tubes, and provide better patient care.
